» famoustom - Ferries Vs Cruises

I've never been on a cruise and the only sailing I've done to date was on the Liverpool / Dublin ferry, the Holyhead ferry and the Fishguard / Rosslare ferry. I'm sure they don't count. The longest time I ever spent on a ship was 24 hours on a trip on the Tor Scandinavia from (I think) Felixstowe to Gothenburg... and another 24 hours back again. I have to say I was glad to get off but all those trips were business and so the idea of being on a ship for weeks on end is slightly daunting. How will I cope and will I be seasick. Does the ship have stabilisers if we hit bad weather, as we did in the North Sea from Gothenburg back to Felixstowe?

All modern cruise ships have stabilisers so you should be fine! It's also a strange but popular myth that you'd be on board for 'weeks on end' - cruises stop in port most days. It's only the long-distance cargo voyages that don't stop much. For a few tips on avoiding seasickness, see my blog on the subject!
