Saga Rose to Visit AntarcticaOver 50s cruise line offers Antarctic adventures
Saga Cruises, the British-owned line for the over 50s, will take passengers on a thrilling voyage to Antarctica, one of the last great wildernesses, on its world cruise.
Saga Rose's passengers will get to see some of the planet's most spellbinding wildlife when she sails into the icy waters of the Antarctic in late January. The ship, which has sailed under the Saga flag for almost 10 years, is visiting Antarctica as part of her 108 day world cruise. During the voyage, passengers can hope to see killer and humpback whales, gentoo penguins and fur seals. Saga Rose's first stop in Antarctica will be Admiralty Bay on King George Island on January 30. The island is home to Arctowski, a Polish Antarctic station, which is the site of some major ecological and oceanographic research projects. The ship will then sail to Waterboat Point in Paradise Harbour where passengers can disembark and walk on the ice among the penguins. The final stop on Saga Rose's Antarctic adventure will be Half Moon Island just off the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, where customers can climb aboard one of four specially purchased zodiac boats to get closer to thousands of Chinstrap penguins which have colonised the island. The ship will then move to the warmer climes of South America as the world cruise continues. The 24,474 tonne vessel carries 587 passengers in elegant style. To book, you have to be over 50, or over 40 if your companion is over 50. Armchair travellers, or those planning to join next year's cruise can follow the captain's blog at www.saga.co.uk/travel.
