Silversea Cruises, one of the world's most upscale cruise lines, has ordered a new ship, a sure sign that the luxury cruise market is booming.

Ultra-luxury cruise line Silversea Cruises has announced that it is building a new ship measuring 36,000 tonnes with a capacity of 540 guests at the Italian Fincantieri yard. The ship will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2009 and the line has taken an option for a second vessel, an indication of the current boom in luxury cruising.

The newbuild order is the first for Silversea since 1998 when contracts for Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper were signed. The award-winning vessels entered into service in 2000 and 2001, respectively, continuing to offer the same high standards as their sisters, the slightly smaller Silver Wind and Silver Cloud.

Details of the new ships have yet to be revealed but Silversea fans – and those who have not yet experienced this superb product – can rest assured that the new vessels will embody the ultimate in luxury and casual elegance. On Silversea’s four existing ships, almost all staterooms and suites have a private balcony and all drinks, including premium brands, are included in the cruise price. Food and service on board are superb and shore excursions are imaginative and spectacular. The four ships roam the world, far beyond the traditional cruising grounds of the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, visiting Australia, the South Pacific, Asia and the Middle East.
