Princess Cruises will launch its largest and its smallest ship in an exciting double ceremony off the Greek island of Santorini

In a historic first for Princess Cruises, the 3,100 passenger Emerald Princess and 710 passenger Royal Princess will formally join the fleet in a dual christening ceremony on May 12, 2007 on the Greek island of Santorini.

The unique naming event, featuring one of the cruise line's largest and smallest vessels, will demonstrate the range of ship choice found throughout the Princess fleet. The innovative superliner Emerald Princess, with its state-of-the-art spa and huge movie screen on deck, will offer a dramatic contrast to Royal Princess, which is less than a quarter of its size, offering passengers a true small-ship experience in refined surroundings of polished wood and brass, and one of the largest libraries at sea.

Royal Princess is currently sailing its last season as Swan Hellenic’s beloved Minerva II; the Swan Hellenic brand will then cease to exist, although the ship will continue to follow imaginative itineraries aimed at the cultured cruiser.

The event also marks the first cruise ship christening held in the idyllic Greek isle's waters. Santorini is one of the most popular ports of call in Europe and both Emerald Princess and Royal Princess will make regular visits to the volcanic island throughout their inaugural European cruise season.
