Anchorage, Alaska has pre- and post-cruise hotels that are family-friendly, luxurious and convenient for Alaska cruises starting or ending in Whittier or Seward.

Alaska cruises that start or end in Whittier or Seward usually mean that passengers need to pass through Anchorage, Alaska because that’s where the Ted Stevens International Airport is located. But since there are plenty of reasons to spend an extra day in Anchorage, here are some popular hotel options.

Best Family Friendly Hotels in Anchorage

  • Embassy Suites Anchorage, 600 East Benson Blvd – This upscale, all-suite accommodation in midtown Anchorage is a great pre- or post-cruise hotel when cruising with children. Suites feature a bedroom with two queen beds along with a separate sitting room that has a queen sleeper couch. There is a complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast every morning and a Manager’s Reception every evening. It is conveniently located close to family-friendly attractions such as the H2Oasis Indoor Water Park.

  • Hilton Anchorage, 500 W. 3rd Ave – This is the largest hotel in the state of Alaska with a convenient Anchorage location. It is only 10 minutes from the Ted Stevens International Airport, one block from the Alaska Railroad depot, and four blocks from the hands-on Imaginarium (Science Discovery Center). The hotel features a 5th floor indoor heated pool, steam rooms and fitness center. And, the guest rooms are appointed with pillow top mattresses, down duvets and plush pillows.

  • Courtyard Anchorage Airport, 4901 Spenard Road –This family-friendly hotel located close to the airport features an indoor pool as well as a children’s indoor pool, too. Guest rooms are appointed with luxurious bedding and include high-speed internet, microwaves and fridges. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle to the airport or to the train station.

Best Luxury Hotels in Downtown Anchorage

  • Sheraton Anchorage Hotel, 401 E. 6th Ave – Completely renovated in 2009, this 16-story hotel features 370 guest rooms and an on-site spa on the top floor. Club level rooms are located on the 11th and 12th floors offering VIP amenities and access to the Club Lounge.

  • Hotel Captain Cook, 939 W. 5th Ave – This independently owned and managed luxury hotel features 547 rooms and 96 suites. The Captain’s Deck is another name for their concierge level located on the 16th and 17th floors of Tower II. These secured floors offer panoramic views, full breakfast, nightly hors d’oeuvres and complimentary access to their Athletic Club. The Athletic Club features a pool, racquetball court, steam rooms, fitness rooms, and tanning beds.

  • Anchorage Marriott Downtown, 820 W. 7th Ave –Located in the heart of downtown, the hotel is within walking distance of the Anchorage Museum, the Convention Center and more. All guestrooms offer wireless internet, luxurious beds and views of the Cook Inlet. The hotel also features an indoor pool and on-site dining.

Although there are some hotels in the port of Whittier and Seward, there is more of a selection in the city of Anchorage. Expect to pay between $200 and $300 per night during the Alaska cruise season.
